FRISTOE SUCCUMBS TUESDAY AT 97 One of Franklin’s oldest residents, Mrs. Mary Ethelberta (Bert) Lewis Fristoe, widow of the late Dr. Ashby Jackson Fristoe, died Tuesday morning. She was born in Albemarle County on July 24, 1863, while her mother, Mildred Katherine Lewis, who was a native of Culpeper, was a refugee from the Yankee troops. She was the daughter of Dr. Robert Strother Lewis, who was Surgeon General in Wheeler’s Corps, C.S.A. She was long identified with Baptist Church work, both in Virginia and Maryland, where the late Dr. Fristoe was an evangelist for the State of Maryland. At her death, she was the oldest member of the Franklin Baptist Church. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Kate F. Wilkins of Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. Robert P. Rawls of Franklin, Mrs. Mary F. Bloomsburg of Westfield, N.J., Mrs. Sadie F. Cashatt of Bryson City, N.C., Mrs. Louise F. Arnold of Fanwood, N.J.; one son, Harry W. Fristoe of Port Arthur, Texas and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, her pastor. Pallbearers were James E. Rawls, C.A. Cutchins, 3rd, Joe Gay Bryant, H.W. Stephenson, Sol W. Rawls, Jr., Robert C. Ray, John E. Ray, 3rd, and R.A.
