An Isle of Wight native, he was a rural letter carrier in Ivor 40 years, until 1957, when he retired. He was a partner in Ivor Oil Co. at his death. He was a son of Allen J. and Mrs. Lavina Carr Faircloth. He was a member of Ivor Baptist Church, a charter member of Ivor Ruritan Club, and a member of Ivor Masonic Lodge 297 and National Rural Letter Carriers Association. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Martha Riddick Faircloth of the home; three sons, John T. Faircloth, Jr., and Hermer H. Faircloth of Ivor and Allen J. Faircloth of Suffolk; one daughter, Mrs. John Earl Bailey of Ivor; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Richard R. Graves of Syria, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. T.H. Skinner of Franklin, Mrs. L.T. Saunders, Sr. of Ivor and Mrs. J.H. Holloman, Sr. of Surry; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, Saturday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Bryan W. Holloman, pastor of Ivor Baptist Church, and the Rev. L.T. Saunders, Jr. of Warrenton Baptist Church. Burial with Masonic rites by Ivor Lodge 297, AF and AM was in Ivor Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Charles West, A.W. Saunders, J.H. Holloman, Jr., G.T. Wade, Jr., S. Wayne Stephenson and Gilbert Chapman.
