All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ SARAH JOHNSON BARNES FRAZIER Mrs. Sarah Frazier, daughter of the late George and Lizzie Adams Johnson, died at her home near Sedley where she had lived all of her life on Wednesday, July 9, in her ninetieth year. Mrs. Frazier was first married to William Barnes who lost his life in the War Between the States. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Alex Johnson*, who preceded her to the grave many years ago. In 1885* she was married to George Frazier who died July 27, 1919*. Since that time she had made her home alone, never willing to leave the place which had meant so much to her through all the days since her childhood. She was a consistent member of Black Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by two grandchildren, C.C. Johnson and Mrs. Paul White; and two great-grandchildren, Miss Ruth White and Howard White of Norfolk, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted by her Pastor, Rev. R.P. Welch, at the home last Thursday afternoon at three o’clock. Appropriate hymns were sung by the choirs of the local churches. The body bearers were: R.L. Johnson, C.B. Owen, Henry Johnson, F.T. Hundley, D.L. Tillery, L.L. Bradshaw, J.W. Turner and Hurley Joyner. There were many tributes paid in beautiful flowers and interment was made in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. Two men from Southampton Co. are known to have served in the Confederate army- William, in Co. A/ 18th Va. Heavy Artillery (the Southampton Lee Artillery) & William D., in Co. D/ 3rd Virginia Infantry (the Southampton Grays). Sarah did not apply for a pension. The date given above for her second marriage is wrong - George Frazier, 27, single, b. Petersburg, res. M.Reg. pp. 321, 675) The family appears in the 1850 Census (Nottoway P'sh, household 365). He died July 26, rather than the 27th.
