He was a native of Southampton County and was a member of the Boykins Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Joe Benny and Mrs. Dora Bryant Francis of Southampton County. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Story Francis and Roy Rodger Francis, all of Handsom; two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Francis Gyoker and Mrs. Mary Francis Dunlow, also of Handsom; two brothers, Lona of Newsoms and Clyde Francis of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Queenie Miller of New York City and Mrs. Bernice Vick of Newsoms; one half-sister, Mrs. Bessie Griffin of Boykins; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor, Franklin Baptist Church, and the Rev. C.W. Coe, pastor, Newsoms Methodist Church. Burial was in Mount Horeb Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rufus Johnson, F.F. Powell, Walter Bishop, Wilson Story, Linwood Drake, Jr., Jack B. Farmer, W.T. Johnson, Walter F. Drake, Jr. and Karl W. Scott.
