Francis, 58, was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Capron United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eric Alexie. Burial was in Capron Cemetery with Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, in charge. Pallbearers were: Roger Wilson, Bert Gray, Sidney Ray Edwards, Charles Winstead, Dr. J.M. Britt and Cooper P. Gillette. Francis died Thursday in Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Ethel (Dick) Pope Francis. He was co-owner and operator of Francis Bros. Lumber Co. He was a member of Capron United Methodist Church and superintendent of its Sunday school for many years. Other survivors include a daughter, Donna Irene Francis of Emporia; a son, Linard Thomas Francis, Jr. of Courtland; three sisters, Elsie F. Dover of Portsmouth, Bertha F. Vaughan of Suffolk and Margaret F. Drake of Radford; three brothers, Moncure Francis, Herbert W. Francis and Vernie W. Francis, all of Capron; and two grandsons.
