A native of Conway, N.C., and a member of the Conway Methodist Church, he was the husband of Mrs. Annie Spence Francis of Courtland. Besides his wife he is survived by four sons, Gilbert G. Francis of Nagoya, Japan, Pfc. James E. Francis of Fort Meade, Md., John Milton Francis of Richmond, and Robert C. Francis of Courtland; eight daughters, Mrs. Robert B. Johnson, Mrs. Garland Bryant, and Miss Ruth Francis, all of Franklin, and Misses Bessie, Irma, Janet, Marie and Rosa Lee Francis, all of Courtland; one brother, Jesse Godwin Francis of Boykins; and three sisters, Mrs. C.H. Speight and Mrs. A.R. Pope of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. and Mrs. Mary Lee Pierce of Weldon, N.C. Services for Mr. Francis were held in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with Rev. J.T. Cassell of Capron officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, pallbearers being --------, W.R. Dameron, W.W. Harris, L.L. Spence, and Herbert, Jesse and Nathan Francis.
