Company in the woodland division, died Saturday in Southampton Memorial Hospital after an illness of many months. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Elmo H. Nauman, pastor of Franklin Christian Church, and the Rev. E. Norfleet Gardner of Henderson, N.C. The family requested that flowers be omitted and donations be made to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. He was a member of Franklin Christian Church and a former member of Franklin Lion’s Club. He is the husband of Mrs. Lois Hartman Gay and son of the late Joe Bynum Gay and Annie Gardner Gay of Franklin. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Joe Bynum Gay III and two grandchildren.
