Death Came Shortly After Five O'clock Yesterday Morning at the Residence of Her Daughter, Mrs. W.T. Brooke Mrs. John Goode, wife of the ex-Solicitor General John Goode, died yesterday morning at 5 o’clock at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. W.T. Brooke, in Norfolk. Mrs. Goode had been ill for some time and recently left her home in Washington for the balmy influences of the temperature at Old Point, hoping that it would recuperate her failing health. Mr. Goode accompanied her, but after a short stay there, during which time her condition became worse instead of better, she was removed to the residence of her daughter, in Norfolk, where all that tender nursing and medical skill could do was done for her benefit. Death came, however, shortly after 5 o'clock yesterday morning. In her last moments she was surrounded by her husband, her daughter, Mrs. Brooke, and other members of her family. Mrs. Goode was Miss Sallie Urquhart, of Southampton County, Va. before her marriage to Mr. Goode. With her husband she resided in Liberty, Va., for some years before coming to Norfolk. During her long residence here she made many friends, who exceedingly regretted her removal to Washington with her charming family some time before Mr. Goode was appointed Solicitor General by President Cleveland. In Washington she had many friends, who will regret with her Norfolk admirers to hear of her death. Her sons, Messrs, Richard Goode, John Goode and James Goode, are all well remembered in Norfolk, although it has been some time since they resided here. Mrs. Goode's funeral will take place from Christ Episcopal Church, of which she was a member, this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The interment will be at Oak Grove cemetery, Southampton County, in the family grounds to-morrow at 12 o'clock. ****************************************************************************** THE DEATH ROLL. Demise of Mrs. John Goode, Mr. George W. Battley and Mr. John P. McHugh - Funeral of Mr. A. J. Smith. Mrs. Goode, wife of ex-Solicitor General John Goode, formerly of Norfolk, but in recent years resident in Washington, D.C., died at 5 o'clock yesterday morning at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. W.T. Brooke, on Duke street, in the fifty-ninth year of her age. Mrs. Goode was a Miss Sallie Urquhart, of Southampton county, where she was married to Mr. Goode. They moved from Sonthampton to Liberty (now Bedford City), Va., before the war and after the war came to Norfolk to live. When Mr. Goode went into public life at Washington they moved to that city, where they have since resided. She was a most estimable lady, greatly liked and very popular in Norfolk. While residing here she was a member of Christ P.E. Church, in which she took great interest. She leaves four children. The funeral will take place at 4 P.M. to-day at Christ Church, and the interment will take place at noon to-morrow at Oak Grove, Southampton county. [...] Sarah "Sallie" (URQUHART; Mrs. John A.)
