All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ DANIEL COBB GILLETTE Daniel Cobb Gillette, Sr., a lifelong resident and farmer of the community, died early Wednesday morning, August 24, after suffering a heart attack at his home near Franklin. Mr. Gillette was the husband of Mrs. Minnie Joyner Gillette of Franklin and a son of the late Joseph Louis and Rebecca Cobb Gillette of this county. He was a member of High Street Methodist Church, of its Men’s bible class, and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Daniel C. Gillette, Jr., of Franklin; two daughters, Mrs. Charles E. Beaton of Alexandria and Mrs. Richard W. Balfour of Franklin; four grandchildren; one brother, T. Asbury Gillette of Franklin; three sisters, Mrs. J. Benjamin Davis, Mrs. Anna G. Davis and Miss Lucille Gillette, all of Courtland; and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services for Mr. Gillette were conducted at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Thursday afternoon at four o’clock by Rev. Elmer N. Hassell, pastor of High Street Methodist Church, and Rev. R.D. Stephenson. Active pallbearers, all nephews of the deceased, were T.A. Gillette, Jr., Gillette T. Bryant, Garland Davis, Lewis Gillette, Lewis Davis, Cecil Gillette, William Davis, and Ryland Gillette. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men’s Bible class of High Street Church.
