Lewis Gillette died at his home, in Southampton County, near here at 10 o’clock Thursday night. The burial will take place at the family burying ground tomorrow afternoon, under the rites of the A.F. and A.M. Lodge, No. 151, and K. and P. Lodge, No. 51, both of this place. Mr. Gillette is survived by his wife, but she is critically ill, and is expected to die at any moment. Mr. Gillette was for four years sheriff of this county. He was the son of Captain Joseph E. Gillette, commander of Company A., Thirteenth Virginia Cavalry, Confederate States Army, which was organized before the Civil War, and enlisted as soon as the war began. He is survived by three sons and three daughters.
