Cooke and C.L. Gatling. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. A resident of Black Creek community, she died Friday in Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Southampton County and the widow of Ryland William Gillette. She was a graduate of Longwood College and taught in the Nansemond county school system for several years. She was a member of Sedley Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. She also was a leader of the Women’s Missionary Society and member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, having held many offices, both local and state. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Mary G. Whitley of Sedley, Mrs. Evelyn G. Vaughan, Mrs. Ryland G. Newsome and Mrs. Anne G. Cross of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union or building fund of Sedley Baptist Church. Lucy Elizabeth (SAUNDERS; Mrs. Ryland W.)
