GILLETTE Mrs. Nannie J. Gillette, widow of the late Wm. J. Gillette of this county, and only child of John H. Stith and Georgiana Stith, passed into life eternal at her home near Pope, Va., November 27, 1919, in her 59th year. Mrs. Gillette had been a great sufferer for nearly three years and the end was not unexpected but like a good and faithful follower of her Lord she awaited with patience and resignation the summons to the great beyond, neighbor murmuring nor complaining at the physical suffering she was called on to endure for a season, knowing that joy cometh in the morning. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.L. Burks assisted by Mrs. Gillette's pastor, Rev. S. N. Hurst, at her home. Her friends sweetly sang "Abide With Me" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The active pallbearers were her former friends and neighbors, Dr. J.N. Applewhite, B.F. Applewhite, S.T. Kello, W.B. Simmons, J.T. Barham and W.P. Gillette; honorary, E.L. Marks, J.D. Vick, T.H. Birdsong, J.F. Kello, E.A. Felts, T.J. Harrell, L.W. Davis, J.M. Nicholson, E.W. Davis, James E. Gillette, J.T. Gillette, W.J. Story, C.W. Richardson and P.A. Ellis. She was buried by the side of her husband in the family burying ground at "Bonnie Doone," a large and sympathizing crowd witnessing the last rites over this good woman. As a friend she was thoughtful and true; as a Christian and a member of Applewhite's M.E. Church for many years, she was earnest, watchful and faithful; as a mother and grandmother the pure diamond of life shone brightest to those who enjoyed her companionship and kind, affectionate, diligent and sacrificing love. Beautiful, fragrant flowers emblematic of her sweet, pure life covered her last resting place and are silent testimonials of love for her and sympathy for her loved ones. She leaves fove children tow boys and three girls, ten grandchildren, many relatives and a host of friends to mourn their loss. "'Neath our eyes she faded slowly/ Growing day by day more frail,/ Bearing sweetly all the suffering/Without murmur, moan or wail./ The moonlight stars are gleaming/ Upon a silent grave,/ Where sleeps without dreaming/ The one we could not save./ The flowers we lay upon her grave/ May wither and decay,/ But fresh and green her memory/ Within our hearts shall stay./ We can see our precious mother/ There among the angel band,/ Beckoning us to come up higher/ Holding out her snowy hand./" [Nannie J.
