All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ PERCY CARROLL GILLETTE Percy Gillette, 29 year old son of Mrs. Mollie Gillette of Franklin and the late Joseph Lewis Gillette died Thursday morning of last week in St. Vincent's Hospital, Norfolk, following a long illness. Surviving him besides his mother are a small daughter, Carolyn Gillette; four brothers, Lewis Gillette of Franklin, Ryland Gillette of Black Creek, Fenton Gillette of Suffolk and Cecil Gillette of Norfolk. Services were held at the grave in Courtland cemetery last Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, with Rev. A. McK. Reynolds of High Street Methodist Church, Franklin, and Dr. Elwood W. Jones of the Franklin Congregational Chrisitan Church officiating. Pallbearers were Warren Kitchen, Garland Davis, Floyd Beale, Ernest Reed, Ezra Gray, G.K. Williams, D.C. Gillette, Jr. and Reese Whitfield. ****************************************************************************** Funeral services for Percy Carroll Gillette of Norfolk, son of Mrs. Mollie E. Gillette and the late Joseph Ezra Gillette of Franklin, who died in St. Vincent's Hospital, Norfolk, Thursday, September 8, after a lingering illness, were held at the Courtland cemetery Friday, September 9, at 3:30 o'clock. Rev. A. McK. Reynolds of Franklin M.E. Church conducted the services, assisted by Dr. Elwood W. Jones of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church. A quartette from the Franklin M.E. Church sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Asleep in Jesus." Mr. Gillette was a young man of exceptional personality, self-sacrificing and generous. He was known and admired as a man of high honor and integrity, numbering a host of friends. For a number of years he held his church membership at Franklin M.E. Church, later transferring it to Park Place M.E. Church, Norfolk, where he had lived for several years. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Carolyn Gillette, his mother, Mrs. Mollie E. Gillette, of Franklin, and four brothers, Cecil Gillette of Norfolk, Fenton Gillette of Suffolk, Ryland W. and Louis Gillette of Franklin and a wide circle of relatives and friends. There was a large attendance and many floral offerings, the casket being covered with a pall of white lilies, red rosebuds and ferns. The pallbearers were: Garland Davis, D.C. Gillette, Jr., G.K. Williams, Jr., Ernest Reed, Ezra Gray, Floyd Beale, Reese Whitfield and Warren Kitchen.
