Galtress was conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. R.E. Brittle and the Rev. H.E. Crutchfield. Burial was in Southampton Memorial Park, Franklin. Pallbearers were Russell Owen, Joe Pond, Paul Wellons, Daniel Gay, Hubert Beale, K.G. Howell, Moody Mumford and G.T. Hundley. Galtress, 87, died Monday in a Franklin hospital after a short illness. A native of Southampton County, he was retired from the State Highway Department. He was a son of Thomas and Mrs. Martha Johnson Galtress and the husband of the late Mrs. Tena Raiford Galtress. He was a member of Burton’s Grove Christian Church and Sedley Hunt Club. Surviving are three sons, R.A. Galtress of Sedley, Thomas Galtress and George Galtress of Franklin; four daughters, Mrs. L.B. Adams of Sedley, Mrs. M.L. Duke of Ivor, Mrs. R.L. Denson of Suffolk, and Mrs. R.B. Vaughan of Franklin; a stepson, Norman Boykins of Wakefield; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Charles Travis of Alexandria; 28 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.
