All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ANNE COOKE GILLIAM VIRGINIA BEACH - Anne Cooke Gilliam, widow of William Lee Gilliam Jr. of Richmond and daughter of Antoinette Camp Cooke Hagood of Franklin, Va., and Armisted Mason Cooke of Norfolk, passed way in her home May 19, 2003. Mrs. Gilliam was born in Washington, D.C., and after her father died when she was one year old, she lived with her mother and grandmother, Mrs. R.J. Camp, in Franklin until her mother's marriage to James Morrow Hagood of Charleston, S.C. Mrs. Gilliam attended the Ashley Hall School of Charleston and Sweet Briar College, the College of Charleston and the Abbott School of Fine and Commercial Art in Washington, C.D. She was dedicated to gardening and was a member of the Virginia Beach Garden Club, a past vice-president of the Garden Club of Virginia. She was instrumental in helping the Virginia Beach Garden Club establish a native plant garden at the Virginia Marine Science Museum. She was a member of Galilee Episcopal Church of Virginia Beach, where she served on the Vestry and was chairman of the Landscape Committee. Mrs. Gilliam is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Gilliam Driscoll Mingin; her son, Mason Cooke Gilliam and daughter-in-law Tina Gilliam; brother Benjamin Ambler Hagood and sister-in-law Derrill Maybank Hagood of Charleston, her grandchildren, William, Barry, Elizabeth and David Driscoll; step- grandchildren, Stephanie and Crystal Threlkeld, four nephews, James, Benjamin, Maybank and Robert Hagood and their wives; five grand-nieces; and four grand- nephews. A memorial service will be held at Galilee Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Coleman Tyler. Friends are invited to visit the family in the Parish Hall following the service. Interment will be private.
