All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ERNEST BINGHAM GILMORE Franklin - Funeral services for Ernest Bingham Gilmore, 86, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins. He died Monday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond. Mr. E.B. as he was known to many, was born Sept. 25, 1893 in Southampton County. His parents, William Henry Gilmore and Elizabeth Bingham Gilmore came to Southampton County from Southampton, England. A merchant, Gilmore worked form Pender Grocery Company from 1920 until 1940 he opened his own business, Gilmore’s Grocery, and retired in October, 1959. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and a veteran of World War I. He also was a member of Pythian Lodge 51, Woodmen of the World and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Annie Bradshaw Gilmore; two daughters, Ann Gilmore Brett of Ashland and Ellen Gilmore McNeal of Alexandria; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
