All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLES LANDON GRAY LYNWOOD MANRY GRAY FARMER AND SON FATALLY BURNED IN MORNING FIRE Double funeral services for Charles Landon Gray, a farmer of the Courtland community, and his 10 year old son, Lynwood Manry Gray, were conducted at the grave in the family cemetery near Capron on Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by Rev. J.T. Cassell, pastor of the Capron Methodist Church. The pallbearers were Herman Barnes, D.D. Francis, Walter Francis, D.L. Harrup, Jack Harrup, L. E. Harrup, W.T. Harrup and Kinney Jenkins. Mr. Gray and his son were fatally burned early Saturday morning March 29, when the former undertook to start a fire in a wood stove in the home, using a can of kerosene for the purpose. The can of oil exploded and in the resulting conflagration the home was destroyed. The boy was burned to death on the scene but the father lived for several hours, dying in Raiford Memorial Hospital late Saturday afternoon. Surviving Mr. Gray are his wife, who was burned about the hands while trying to extinguish the flames; one daughter, Miss Elizabeth Ann Gray of Courtland; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Gray Pulley of Courtland and Mrs. Anna Gray Harrup of Joyner; and one brother, William H. Gray of Emmett, Idaho.
