All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GEORGE DAVIS GRAY DESPONDENT FARMER ENDS LIFE WITH GUN George Davis Gray, aged 43 years, a farmer residing in Isle of Wight County near Franklin, died from a self-inflicted wound early Saturday morning, July 22. Mr. Gray had been in bad health since the death of his wife last year, and it is believed that his ill health and despondency combined caused him to end his own life. He left a note to his family explaining his rash act. Deceased was the son of W.D. Gray and the late Mrs. Dora Drake Gray of Southampton County. He is survived by two daughters, Misses Elizabeth and Ruth Gray of Franklin; his father, W.D. Gray of Boykins; one sister, Mrs. C.F. Lassiter of Newsoms; and six brothers, B.C. and Ashby Gray of Boykins, Warren Gray of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., H.W. Gray of Portsmouth, and R.L. and Oscar Lee Gray of Franklin. Funeral services were conducted at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock by Rev. N.C. Clifton, pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
