GRAY NEWSOMS - Richard Percy Gray, 83, died in his home Tuesday after a long illness. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary F. Gray and a son of Benjamin and Mrs. Johnnie Britton Gray. He was a retired merchant and a member of Newsoms Baptist Church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Nellie Mack, Mrs. Lucile Cyrus, and Mrs. Evelyn Ferguson of Newsoms and Mrs. Edith Forrest of Franklin; four sons, Edward Gray of Norfolk, Clyde Gray of Chuckatuck, Hubert Gray of Emporia, and Thomas Gray of Windsor; two brothers, Bennie Gray of Carrsville and Charlie Gray of Emporia; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Drake of Newsoms and Mrs. Sarah Smith of Emporia; 22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in McDowell Funeral home, Boykins, by the Rev. Harry Bunch.
