RICHARD PERCY GRAY 

   NEWSOMS - A funeral service for Richard Percy Gray was conducted Friday 
at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Harry Bunch.  Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery.

   Gray, 83, died in his home Tuesday after a long illness.

   A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. 
Mary F. Gray and a son of Benjamin and Mrs. Johnnie Britton Gray.

   He was a retired merchant and a member of Newsoms Baptist Church.

   Surviving are four daughters Mrs. Nellie Mack, Mrs. Lucile Cyrus, and 
Mrs. Evelyn Ferguson of Newsoms and Mrs. Edith Forrest of Franklin; four 
sons, Edwards Gray of Norfolk, Clyde Gray of Chuckatuck, Hubert Gray of 
Emporia and Thomas Gray of Windsor; two brothers, Bennie Gray of Carrsville, 
and Charlie Gray of Emporia; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Drake of Newsoms and 
Mrs. Sarah Smith of Emporia; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

The obit fails to mention his second wife, Georgie (WORRELL LASSITER DRAKE) 
   GRAY.  She is buried with her second husband in Beechwood Cemetery,
