All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WALTER PERCY GRAY COURTLAND - Walter Percy Gray, 88, retired undertaker and hardware dealer, died Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elmo E. Pittman, near Courtland, after an illness of one week. He was a native of Southampton County, a son of William and Mrs. Mary Lou Gray. He was the widower of Mrs. Sarah Vincent Gray. He was a member of Boykins Methodist Church and the Woodmen of the World. With his late brother, he had operated the Gray Brothers Hardware and Undertaking Co. for 40 years. He had been retired for 30 years. Besides his daughter, surviving are one son, Beverly R. Gray of Washington and three sisters, Mrs. Virgie Wartham, Mrs. Ed Moore and Mrs. W.J. Worrell, all of Richmond, and one granddaughter, Kathryn Gray Pittman of the home. Funeral services were held at Boykins Methodist Church Sunday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. H.G. Thach, pastor, and the Rev. R.L. Bailey, pastor of Courtland Baptist Church. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Pallbearers were Franklin Stephens. L.L. Worrell, Norman Beaton, Jack Britt, J.C. Blowe and Stuart Jenkins.
