All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HARVEY FOUNTAIN GRIFFIN Harvey Fountain Griffin, well-known resident of Capron, age 49 years, died at Raiford Hospital, Franklin, Thursday night, December 17, after a brief illness. He had suffered intensely for two days from a throat infection but it was not thought to be of a serious nature until a few hours before his death, when he was rushed to the hospital. He was a well-known and popular resident of Capron and was the town mayor for many years until about 23 years ago when he moved with his family to Emporia where he was a most successful automobile dealer and a member of the city council. They moved back to Capron in the early fall to their attractive new home. Mr. Griffin was a consistent member of the Capron Baptist Church and numbered many friends in the county and in Emporia. He was the son of the late Benjamin R. and Mrs. Lydia Griffin of this county. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Steinhardt Griffin; two sons, Henry B. and Joseph; one granddaughter, Vivian Louise Griffin; two sisters, Mrs. L.P. Williams, Sr., and Mrs. P.B. Edwards, Sr., all of Capron, and one brother, J.C. Griffin, of Holland. Funeral services were conducted from the residence Saturday afternoon, December 19, by his Pastor, Rev. A.W. Coates, assisted by Rev. Clifford Ramsey of the Methodist Church, with interment in the Capron Cemetery. Members of both choirs sang some of his favorite hymns. The active pallbearers were: Dr. J.N. Applewhite, W.E. Joyner, A.J. Jenkins, D.D. Barham, Sr., L.R. Magee and H.L. Bain of Capron, Edward Daughtrey of Franklin and G.S. Nixon of Emporia.
