He was born June 23, 1924, in Spears [sic; Speers] Ferry, Va., and was the son of the late James Harvey and Lizzy Felts Griffin. Mr. Griffin retired from Smithfield Packing Company as a security guard with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Dawn Ann Wright Griffin; three daughters, Jamie G. Vaughan of Franklin, Nancy Ann Griffin and Elizabeth Dawn Griffin, both of Smithfield; son, James Elliott Griffin of Smithfield; sister, Wanda G. Edwards of Franklin; brother, T.R. Griffin of Boykins; three grandchildren, Loren and Amy Vaughan and Corey Daniels; and a great- grandson, Winston Vaughan. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, with Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, and suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431 or the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 117, Smithfield, VA 23431. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements.
