Griffin, one of Franklin’s most beloved women, died at St. Christopher’s Hospital, Norfolk, Thursday, November 9, after an illness of several months. She was in her sixty-third year, a native of this county and a member of an old Southampton family. She had lived a singularly useful and unselfish life and no resident of our town possessed a wider circle of friends than she. She was a charter member of the Franklin Baptist Church and taught a Sunday school class for a number of years. She taught for nearly forty years both in private and public schools of the town and county, and many of our prominent citizens received instruction from her. She is survived by a brother, W. Scott Griffin of Galveston, Texas, two nephews, W. Sully Griffin of Portsmouth and Hunter Griffin of Norfolk; two nieces, Mrs. A.A. Riddick of Smithfield, Va., and Mrs. Kenneth A. Bain of Portsmouth. The body was brought to our town Saturday morning and the funeral services were held from the Franklin Baptist Church by Rev. J.L. McCutcheon. The interment was made in the family burial plot at "Fairview" and the pallbearers were: active, J.J. Bristow, W.H. Arthur, E.A. deBordenave, R.A. Pretlow, Joe Bynum Gay, D.O. Norfleet, D.C. Gillette and C.J. Edwards; honorary, L.R. Edwards, J.T. Butler, J.L. Camp, J.P. Gay, M.H. Moore, D.A. Holland, J.D. Abbitt, C.C. Vaughan, Sr., A.L. Gardner, I.E. Howell, T.O. Barrett, J.C. Parker, P.D. Camp and E.S. Eley. Julia W.
