A funeral service for Johnnie Griffin Jr. was held Friday at 3 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Darden Battle. Burial was in Sycamore Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jimmy Babb, Leroy Bradshaw, Gilliam McGee, Jesse Coggsdale, Roger Cutchins, Russell Coggsdale, Lacy Howard and Tommy Holland. Griffin, 47, of 208 Beale’s Court, died Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A native of Southampton County, he lived here most of his life. He was a son of Mrs. Gurtie Coggsdale Griffin and the late Johnnie Griffin Sr. He was in the grocery business. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Besides his mother, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mac Ricks of Pendelton, N.C. and a son, Army Spec. 4 Ernest T. Griffin of California.
