All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ SALLIE HOLLAND GRIFFIN Mrs. Sallie Holland Griffin, aged 69, well-known resident of Nansemond County and widow of James Caswell Griffin, died Monday at her home after an illness of many months. A daughter of the late John Thomas and Mrs. Louisa Vaughan Holland of Nansemond County, she was a member of South Quay Baptist Church and the Woman’s Missionary Society, serving faithfully until ill health prevented. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. George W. Whitehead, Jr., of Sanford, N.C., and Miss Lydia E. Griffin of Holland; two sons, J.P. Griffin of Tallahassee, Fla. and J.E. Griffin of Holland; five grandchildren; one brother, Jason G. Holland of Holland, and one sister, Miss Penelope Holland of Franklin. Funeral services were held at the residence near Holland Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock by the Rev. Arnold Slater. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Pallbearers were John A. Rawls, Beverly W. Daughtrey, Garland Saunders, James Rawls, P.O. Duck, E.L. Felton, Percy Vaughan and James Jones. Sarah Emma "Sallie" (HOLLAND; Mrs. James C.)
