Beale Carter and George Bradshaw. ****************************************************************************** WILLIE EDWARD GRIFFIN Being in Newsoms recently we missed the familiar figure of "Willie Griffin" on the streets and in the Post Office. Mr. Griffin was a popular fertilizer salesman and peanut buyer for many years and had many friends in Newsoms District and in the Como community where he was reared by his uncle, John Railey, he being orphaned at an early age. His devotion to an only niece, Gussie Griffin Bradley, was beautiful both in her childhood and last illness. She was the daughter of his only brother, Lew Griffin, who died in 1916. He is survived by his wife, Miss Ruth O’Berry Griffin, and a number of relatives in Southampton and Hertford counties. Though in failing health for many months his death came as a shock to his family and friends, his wife finding him dead in his chair December 28, 1942. He will be missed by the public he served so long and by his family. Kind in his family, accommodating to his friends and neighbors, he’s gone but not forgotten. Communicated.
