Clem Grizzard of Adams Grove, Va., son of the late Richard L. and Mrs. Mattie Clements Grizzard, died October 6 at his home. Mr. Grizzard was born May 6, 1861 [sic; 1871], in Southampton County, and for many years had been a faithful member of Adams Grove Baptist Church, during these years of service being an honored deacon of his church. Funeral service was held at the home in Adams Grove Saturday, October 8, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Albert W. Coates. Burial was made in the Grizzard cemetery, the impressive rites of the Masonic order being used in the committal service. The pallbearers were: G.F. Williams, S.E. Edwards, A.W. Mattox, J.W. Fox, T.P. Claud and G.D. Turner. Honorary bearers were members of the Men's Bible Class, of which Mr. Grizzard was a conscientious member. Beautiful flowers attested the love and esteem in which Mr. Grizzard was held. He leaves three nephews: l'Anson Grizzard of Knoxville, Tenn., Stuart Grizzard of the University of Richmond, Gordon Grizzard of Adams Grove, and two nieces, Mrs. A.D. Lewis of Adams Grove and Mrs. Rufus Hariston of Danville. In the passing of this citizen the entire community feels very keenly its loss. Mr. Grizzard was a man of sterling qualities and habits, being held in the highest esteem by all who knew him in the community and his church. For over 45 years he had resided in the Adams Grove community and during this time he had been vitally concerned about all the interests of Southampton County, holding places of responsibility in his county, both as a citizen and an officer. ****************************************************************************** RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT Whereas God in His Divine Providence has seen fit to remove from our midst and the Adams Grove Baptist Church the soul of a friend, and loyal church member, V.
