ESSIE ARLENE EDWARDS GRIZZARD

MRS. ESSIE E. GRIZZARD

   Mrs. Essie E. Grizzard, 76, wife of the late William Henry Grizzard, died at 
her residence near Drewryville early Monday morning, January 21, at 4:15 
o'clock after a lingering illness. 

   The daughter of the late John Frank and Mrs. Delia Ann Roper Edwards, she 
was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was a member of Person 
Methodist Church. 

   Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. C.P. Rawls, Sr., and Mrs. Daisy Rode, 
both of Richmond and Misses Mary and Katy Grizzard of Drewryville; six sons 
C.G., E.M., F.W. and W.R. Grizzard, all of Richmond, and W.W. and W.F. Grizzard 
of Drewryville; three brothers Floyd Edwards of Drewryville and V.M. and W.T. 
Edwards of Emporia; one half brother R.L. Edwards of Richmond, and one half- 
sister, Mrs. Ashby Cook of Richmond. 

   Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon in Person Methodist 
Church with the pastor, Rev. William Ferguson, officiating and assisted by Rev. 
William Stennett, pastor of Hebron Baptist Church. Interment was in the Persons 
Church cemetery. 

   Active pallbearers were Paul Edwards, R.T. Edwards, L.B. Edwards, J.L. 
Edwards, Dudley Edwards and Amos Grizzard. Honorary pallbearers were friends of 
the family.
