All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ROBERT LEE GRIZZARD Funeral services for Robert Lee Grizzard, who died Monday afternoon, March 18, near his home in Drewryville, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at his late home with interment in Memorial Cemetery, Drewryville. The services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Albert W. Coates, assisted by the Rev. Frank B. Handley of Boykins. Masonic rites were performed at the grave. Mr. Grizzard was born near Drewryville in 1879, in Southampton County. He was the son of the late Franklin P. Grizzard and Mrs. Mary Ann Harris Grizzard. Mr. Grizzard had been Supervisor of his district for sixteen years, and for eight years had been a member of the local school board. The deceased had been a citizen of Southampton all his life and was one of its most successful farmers and citizens. At about eleven years of age he professed religion and unite with Antioch Baptist Church. After he moved to Drewryville he joined Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, of which he was a member at the time of his death. In 1903 Mr. Grizzard was united in marriage to Miss Alice Elizabeth Mondell. To this union there were born the following children: Dr. Alton Grizzard of the V.P.I. faculty, Blacksburg; George F. Grizzard of Blacksburg; Miss Alice Grizzard of the Boykins High School faculty, and Samuel William Grizzard, a student at the Medical College of Virginia. Pallbearers were L.H. Babb, Dr. J.M. Bland, L.W. McGarth and J.M. Camp, member of the Southampton County Board of Supervisors; J.L. Doughtie and T.H. Barrett, former members and H.B. McLemore, Jr., county clerk.
