Berkley Garnett. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield was in charge. Pallbearers were N.S. Boykins, J.J. Bradshaw, Marsdan Pulley, Edgar V. Stephenson Jr., J.T. Faircloth Jr., Dr. E.M. Babb, Marvin Felts, Winston Camp, Ernest Pittman, Bobby Owens and Roy Stephenson. Gardner, 91, died Thursday in a Richmond hospital after illness of a month. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, he was a retired rural mail carrier and post master. He was the husband of Mrs. Eunice Clayton Gardner and a son of John Wesley and Mrs. Katherine Wills Gardner. He was a deacon of Ivor Baptist Church, and a member of Woodmen of the World. He was an Army veteran of World War I. Besides his widow, surviving are two sisters, Mrs. T.B. Bell and Miss Arleen Gardner of Courtland, and a niece, Mrs. G.T. Martin of Springfield.
