All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CORNELIA GERTRUDE GRISSOM GORDON ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Cornelia Grissom Gordon, 73, of the 1700 block of Benvenue Road, a retired teacher and counselor, died May 14, in a hospital. Mrs. Gordon, a native of Harrellsville, N.C., retired as a teacher and guidance counselor at Benvenue High School in Rocky Mount. She had served as director of elementary and secondary education programs in Franklinton City, N.C., schools. She had taught in Lewisburg, N.C., and Clayton, N.C. She was a graduate of Chowan College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a member of the national and North Carolina education associations; Delta Kappa Gamma; Franklinton Women's Club; and Benvenue Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Rossie B. Gordon; two daughters, Jane G. Binz of Raleigh and Gwynn G. Wham of Winston-Salem; a sister, Adeline G. Kitchen of Courtland; a brother, Jesse L. Grissom of Courtland; and three grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Saturday in Benvenue Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Wiggins. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Memorial donations may be made to the church's building fund.
