An editorial in the Richmond Times-Dispatch Wednesday morning said, "Endowed with a sweet and affectionate personality, and a great capacity for friendship, Dr. Gardner’s relations with her patients and their parents may be said to have been ideal. Never too busy to visit her boys and girls at any hour of the day or night, her very presence in the sick room brought renewed confidence and strength. Dr. Gardner was a native of Franklin, the daughter of the late A.L. and Mrs. Lelia Norfleet Gardner. She is survived by one brother, Dr. E. Norfleet Gardner of Laurinburg, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Wade H. Pierce of Richmond; three nieces, Mrs. Robert Hathaway and Mrs. R.W. Edwards of Richmond, and Miss Alice Ruth Gardner of Laurinburg; and one nephew, Joe Bynum Gay, Jr., of Franklin. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, at 4 o’clock with Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, officiating. Active pallbearers were Dr. Emmett Matthews, Dr. George Modlin, Virginius Dabney, Dr. P.D. Camp, Dr. Henry W.
