Hill & Co. Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. L.F. Smith. Burial was in Southampton Memorial Park, Franklin. Pallbearers were Burke Howell, J. Edward Howell, Bradford G. Howell, Thad Evans, Phillip Goodman, Lawrence Goodman, P.J. Fowler and Seth Howell. Gardner died Tuesday in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin, after a long illness. A native of Nansemond County, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of South Quay Baptist Church. He was the husband of Mrs. Bessie Viola Howell Gardner and a son of John Lawrence and Mrs. Sarah Alice Marsh Gardner. Besides his widow surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle G. Eason of South Quay; a son, Henry H. Gardner of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Clyde Howell of Nansemond County and Mrs. Essie Lawrence of Gates, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
