Norfleet Gardner of Henderson, N.C., were held in Poplar Spring Cemetery yesterday afternoon, at 4:30 o’clock, the services being conducted by Dr. Hugh L. Ellis of Wilson, N.C., assisted by Rev. E.R. Nelson of Henderson and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. Pallbearers were: Dr. W.W. Noel and A.J. Watkins of Henderson, R.D. Taylor of Dunn, N.C., Dr. Leslie Campbell, president of Campbell College, Buies Creek, N.C., F.B. Hamrick of Raleigh and Jno. C. Parker Jr. Mrs. Ruth Carver Gardner, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W.O. Carver of Louisville, Kentucky, died at her home in Henderson Tuesday night after a long illness. She was an unusually consecrated and useful woman, and author of several religious books, including "Christ in the World," "Christ’s Gift to the Churches" and "Builder of Dreams," besides being a regular contributor to the periodicals published by the Sunday School Board of her church. She was a native of Kentucky, receiving her education in the Girls High School of Louisville, and graduated from Westhampton College, Richmond, in 1920. Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by two daughters, Miss Lelia Norfleet Gardner of Westhampton College and Alice Ruth Gardner of Henderson; by three brothers, W.O. Carver, Jr. of Louisville, Dr. James Carver of New York and George Carver of Shanghai, China, a missionary to that country; two sisters, Mrs. Maxfield Garrett, a missionary in Japan, and Mrs. Maurice Cramer of Tampa, Florida.
