Garrenton died at her residence in South Street Saturday, February 23, after a brief illness from influenza followed by pneumonia. Mrs. Garrenton, who was the daughter of the late Thomas Fagan and his wife, Stella Montgomery, was born in Boykins, but since early childhood had resided in Franklin. She was married in 1902 to B.B. Garrenton, who with their five daughters survives her. Mrs. Garrenton’s death will be felt as a distinct loss by her neighbors and friends, her church and the entire town. Her kindness of heart and her cheerful willingness to render service to all those with whom she came in contact, in whatever capacity their necessities might demand, made her life one of constant and untiring activity, while her modest and retiring disposition demanded to lessen the need to praise that was so richly her due. She was unceasing in her loving ministrations to her family, her friends and all who needed the services she could render. Her devotion to her church and her eagerness to perform in its interest, the most difficult or exacting tasks will cause her name to be lovingly mentioned and long remembered by her co- workers in the organizations with which she labored so willingly and successfully. The funeral services, conducted by the Rev. James S. Watt were from Emmanuel Episcopal Church with which Mrs. Garrenton had long been connected. Interment was in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery. A large attendance of relatives and friends and a great profusion of beautiful flowers bore feeling testimony to the esteem in which this good woman was held. Her immediate family consists of her husband, B.B. Garrenton; her daughters, Miss Stella Garrenton of Winston-Salem, Miss Frances Garrenton of Richmond, Mrs. G.P. Hopkins of Norfolk and little Mary and Alice Garrenton; a sister, Mrs. J.E. Johnson of Norfolk and a brother, Robert Fagan of Kansas City, Mo. The body bearers were: J.A. Pretlow, Barclay Pretlow, G.G. McCann, J.J. Finley, Dr. E.A. deBordenave, Dr. Beaman Story, Dr. W.E. Snipes and W.W. Smith. The honorary bearers were: R.C. Campbell, Sol W. Rawls, F.R. Day, Dr. R.H.
