A native of Greensville County, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Mollie Phillips Garner. He was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, in which he served faithfully for many years. Mr. Garner is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Jones Garner of Drewryville; one daughter, Mrs. Allen M. Partridge of Drewryville; two sons, James C. Garner of Colonial Heights and William J. Garner of Elkton, Md.; nine grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Vincent of West Point; and one brothers, Henry Garner of Garysburg, N.C. Funeral services were held from Thomas Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Rev. H.B. Jennings, pastor of the church, and Rev. J.T. Cassell, pastor of the Drewryville Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in the Drewryville Cemetery. Acting pallbearers were John T. Claud, C.D. Cobb, C.C. Jones, Jesse Lee, William Leigh, H.L. Partridge, F.E. Pope and R.B. Purdy.
