Hawa in the Blackwater River near the boat wharf Tuesday, just one week after an unknown white man was seen failing from the Seaboard Bridge here, clears up the mystery as to his identity. Luther Ricks, Negro fisherman, found the body, and with the help of Captain Ward of the tug "Corinthia," towed it to shore where it was taken charge of by W.J.M. Holland and Sons, burial services being conducted Tuesday afternoon in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Father J.O. Schmidhauser of the local Catholic parish. The pallbearers were: Mitchel and Fred Rabil, nephews of Mr. Hawa, of Weldon, N.C., Hinson Parker, Harry Steinhardt, Jonah and Allan Soble. Mr. Hawa, known to his friends as John Hawa, was a native of Lebanon, coming to American in 1913. Except for a short time spent in Rocky Mount and Weldon, N.C., he had made his home in Franklin, where he was a well-known merchant and an exemplary citizen with many friends. Recently his health had been poor, and he had been in Raiford Memorial Hospital for a few weeks, and more recently in the University of Virginia Hospital. He was 46 years of age and a faithful communicant of the Roman Catholic Church. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Vashti Jones Hawa; two brothers, Beshara M. Hawa of Franklin and Caesar Hawa of Lebanon; two sisters, Mrs. F. A. Rabil of Weldon, N.C., and sister Laurance Hawa of Lebanon.
