All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ALBERT WOODVILLE HAYES Albert Woodville Hayes, well-known Franklin citizen, died at his home in North High Street Wednesday morning after a long period of ill health, in his 77th year. Mr. Hayes was a native of Isle of Wight County, the son of the late Timothy Hayes and Mrs. Lavinia Darden Hayes, and had spent the greater part of his life in this town where he was a successful merchant, a former member of the Town Council, and had served the town acceptably as street commissioner for approximately 25 years. He had been a member of the Franklin Baptist Church for more than half a century. Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Cutchin Hayes; two sons Philip and Raymond Hayes; a daughter, Miss Mabel Hayes; a granddaughter, Miss Myrtis Hayes and two brothers, Captain W.R. Hayes of Portsmouth and C.H. Hayes of Franklin. Funeral rites were conducted from the home Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by his Pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, and burial was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Ryland Camp, Roy Edwards, Ernest Brinkley, Franklin Edwards, Cecil Vaughan, 3rd, Jno. C. Parker, Jr., Frank Howell and Leland Fleetwood. Woodville (Jr.; 1901-02) is marked by an infant sleeping on a blanket within a scallop shell. The marker for infant daughter Cherree Virginia (1896-96) is topped with a lamb.
