He was the son of the late John W. and Mary Bass Hasty of Southampton County. He is survived by his wife, Annie Burgess Hasty; six daughters, Mrs. O.L. Joyner of Burdette, Mrs. W.M. Peterson of Franklin, Mrs. C.E. Whitley of Portsmouth, Misses Grace Hasty of Newport News, Inez and Florence Hasty of Franklin; two sons, Luther Hasty of Philadelphia and Ryland Hasty of Franklin; two brothers, J.W. and J.R. Hasty of Portsmouth; a sister, Mrs. S.T. Hasty of Jackson, N.C., and two grandchildren, Burton and Edwin Joyner of Burdette. Services were conducted last Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from his residence by his pastor, the Rev. B.B. Bland of High Street Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. A. McK. Reynolds, a former pastor. Members of the church choir sang "The Old Rugged Cross," followed by scripture reading and prayer by Mr. Bland and Mr. Reynolds. The choir sang as a closing song, "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me." Mr. Reynolds read a poem at the grave. The casket was covered with a pall of pink and white carnations, interment taking place in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the following pallbearers; Curtis Whitley, Arthur Edwards, Reginald Burgess, E. Lee Peterson, Robert, George, Lawrence and Sidney Hasty.
