Hatfield, died at her home in Suffolk Thursday, April 7. Mrs. Hatfield was the only daughter of the late James T. and Mrs. Mattie A. Hatfield of Southampton County and was born May 11, 1885, near Franklin where she lived until moving to Suffolk in June 1931. In early girlhood she united with Black Creek Baptist Church and was for many years a teacher in its Sunday school. In March, 1910, she married M. Carey Hatfield, who survived her with four children, Virginia, Mary Sue, Louise and M.C. Hatfield, Jr.; her mother, Mrs. Mattie A. Hatfield, and two brothers, R.O. and H.C. Hatfield of Norfolk. Funeral services were held at Black Creek Baptist Church Sunday morning by the Pastor, Rev. Mr. Vellines, assisted by Dr. W.W. Staley of Suffolk. "He Lives On High," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide with Me" were sung by the choir. Active pallbearers were: Rosser Rose, Rufus Turner, Clinton Joyner, Alvin Hatfield, M.H. Lowe and A.E. Drewry.
