OLEY* LEE HATFIELD

   A funeral service for Oley Lee Hatfield, Sr. was conducted Feb. 27 at 3 
p.m. in W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, Rev. Robert 
D. Fridley, and Rev. Harold C. Lewis.

   Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.

   Pallbearers were: Nevin Hedrick, Roger C. Whitley, J. Otis Whitley, Scottie 
Whitley, Herbert Boothe, V.C. Lankford, Jr., Linwood Drake and James Wagenbach.

   Hatfield, 72, of 600 Chestnut St., Franklin, died Feb 25 in Southampton 
Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

   He was a native of Beckley, W.Va. and had lived in this area for the past 
22 years.  He was the operator of Franklin Laundry and Cleaners before his 
retirement in 1960.  He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Whitley** 
Hatfield and the son of Rev. Alonzo and Mrs. Sophia Cline Hatfield.  He was a 
Baptist.

   Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Loraine Dowdy, 
Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Marcella Haskin, Chesapeake, Mrs. Florence Hedrick, 
Portsmouth; three sons; Oley Lee Hatfield Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Elwood 
Hatfield, Beckley, W.Va., Bud Hatfield, Niagra Falls, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. 
Yetive Kirby, Norfolk, Mrs. Mavis McCrady, Portsmouth; two brothers, Euland 
Hatfield, Norfolk, Elba Hatfield, Nann, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren and eight 
great-grandchildren.

Beckley, WV native, d. 25 Feb 1971, Franklin, age 72,
