Howell, 96, of Courtland was held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Courtland Baptist Church by the Rev. Harold C. Lewis, Rev. Herman Smith, and Rev. Fred Harcum. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Courtland. Pallbearers were C.C. Baker Jr., Charlie Scott, Winfield Hill, Warren Beale, Handy Moore, Junius Pulley, Patty Felts and Elmo Pittman. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Men's Bible Class. A native and lifelong resident of Southampton County, he was the son of Watson and Mrs. Priscilla Beale Howell and the husband of the late Mrs. Cora Bryant Howell. He was the oldest member of the Courtland Baptist Church and it's Men's Bible Class. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Lizzie Howell of Courtland, and a son, Eugene Howell, also of Courtland, and a number of nieces and nephews.
