Born in Branchville, he was the son of the late William Fletcher and Geneva Holland Howell. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and its Bruner Bible class. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Josephine Stephenson Howell of Franklin; four daughters, Misses Geneva Elizabeth Howell, at student at Madison College, and Lynda Alice, Peggy Josephine and Amelia Rae Howell, all of Franklin; one brother, W. Herman Howell; and two sisters, Mrs. R.C. Councill of Franklin and Mrs. C.R. Waters of Charlotte, N.C. Funeral services for Mr. Howell were held in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock, with Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, and Rev. R.D. Stephenson, former pastor, officiating. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Walter Beale, John C. Bunch, Hunter Darden, H.M. DeBerry, Letcher Eley, Jesse F. McClenny, C.B. Smart and Gilbert Stephenson.
