GENEVA BLANCHE HOLLAND HOWELL

   Geneva B. Howell, 81, of Franklin, wife of the late William Fletcher 
Howell, died at the residence late Tuesday night, June 9, after suffering ill 
health for the past 25 years.

   A lifelong resident of Southampton County, Mrs. Howell was born in 
Branchville, the daughter of the late Thomas Carr and Narcissa Newton Holland. 
With her family she moved to the Franklin community in 1915.  She was a member 
of High Street Methodist Church.

   Surviving her are two sons, W. Herman Howell, Sr., and Dewey Howell, both 
of Franklin; two daughters, Mrs. R.C. Councill of Franklin and Mrs. C.R. 
Walters of Charlotte, N.C.; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and 
one sister, Mrs. Willie Estelle Wrench of Smyrna, Del.  Two foster children 
who had made their home with Mrs. Howell since early childhood are Miss Dell 
Holland of Richmond and William H. Howell, Jr. of Franklin.

   Funeral services were held from the residence on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 
o’clock, with Revs. James W. Turner, R.D. Stephenson and Ira D. Hudgins 
officiating.

   Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.  Acting pallbearers were Walter M. 
Beale, Sr., W.M. Bradshaw, Jr., R.C. Councill, Jr., Hunter Darden, Jr., Jack 
W. Holland, T.C. Holland, Jr., T. Hayes Holland and Robert Howell.
