Members of the family were resting when he stepped into the hall, closed doors opening into it and shot himself through the temples. He was brought to Raiford Hospital here by member of the family, being admitted at 5:10, and die about 20 minutes later. Mr. Hill had been in ill health for some time, and despondency over his condition and inability to work was thought responsible for the tragedy. He was 68. Mr. Hill was born and reared in Southampton County, the son of the late William Hill and Lydia Whitley Hill. He spent most of his life around Newsoms and Boykins and was engaged in farming up to his death. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Britt Hill, eight children, W. Jimmie Hill, Bynum Hill, Carroll Hill, Raleigh and Edward Hill, Miss Viola Hill and Mrs. Earl Vick of Boykins and Mrs. Bennie Griffin of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Hill was a member of Barnes Methodist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was faithful and honest in all his dealings with his fellowmen. Funeral services were held from his home near Boykins Monday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, Rev. C.F. Moseley officiating, assisted by Rev. F.B. Handley of Boykins Baptist Church. Special music was rendered by the combined choirs of Barnes and Boykins churches. Interment was made in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The active pallbearers were: Dr. J.M. Bland, Caleb Everett, Hugh Barrett, L.A. Hill, C.M. Edwards, H.A. Moore, John Worrell and Lee Thorpe. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. There was a large attendance at the funeral.
