High St. extended, a lab director, died Sept. 28, in a hospital. Mr. Helms, a native of Round Mountain, Ala., was a lab director with the State Department of Agriculture at the Regional Regulatory Lab, Ivor. He was an Air Force staff sergeant during the Korean War, and a graduate of Palmer School of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa. He was a member of National Biological Association, Defenders of Wildlife, Cousteau Society, Make Today Count Society for the Terminally Ill and the Virginia Photographer’s Association. He was a Protestant. Survivors include his wife, Glenda W. Helms; two sons, Peter Whitley Helms and Alan Keith Helms, both of Franklin; his mother, Venice E. Helms of Centre, Ala.; four sisters, Billie Sue White of Centre, Mary Beth Webb of Fayetteville, Ga., Gail Hale of Troy, Ala., and Adet Stephens of Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, Jerry Helms of Elkins, W.Va. and Randy Helms of Beaufort, S.C. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. John Siegle.
