Holland, resident of Franklin for many years, died at her home in Fourth Avenue last Friday morning. She was the widow of the late D.A. Holland, well-known merchant of our town, who died some years ago. Mrs. Holland was a woman of genial and pleasant personality, always cheerful and friendly, a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of the Woman’s Missionary Society. Mrs. Josephine Cornelia Holland was a native of Nansemond County, a daughter of the late Mark and Mrs. Caroline Beale Saunders, and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George W. Hayes of Portsmouth and Mrs. W.T. Pace, Jr. of Franklin; two grandchildren, Miss Clyde Holland Hayes of Portsmouth and W.T. Pace, 3rd, of Franklin; three sisters, Mrs. W.J. Cross and Mrs. C.J. Cutchin of Franklin and Mrs. Gabie Howell of Suffolk; two brothers, H.P. and J.P Saunders of the community, several nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Funeral rites were held from her late residence Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by her pastor, the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, burial following in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers were: E.K. Brinkley, J.C. Eley, Carlton Cutchin, W.J. Cross, Jr., K.M. Thorsen, C.C. Vaughan, 3rd, Henry Fitzgerald and R.H. Powell. Josephine Cornelia (SAUNDERS; Mrs. David A.)
