HOLLAND, DIED FRIDAY FRANKLIN - Lee Britt Holland, 74, retired superintendent of Camp Manufacturing Co., died Friday night in Raiford Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Dorothea Lankford Holland and a son of the late Paul Cephus and Mrs. Mary Alice Holland of Nansemond County. He was a member of High Street Methodist Church and its Board of Stewards, and a charter member of Franklin Lions Club. After attending local public schools, he started his lumber career in 1903 in the log woods of Wiggins Lumber Co., at Green Pond, S.C. He rose to mill foreman. In January, 1909 he joined Camp Manufacturing Co. as a filer, relief sawyer and foreman, serving in these capacities at Butterworth, Arringdale and Marion, S.C. He was transferred to the main mill at Franklin in 1918 and in March 1923, was appointed assistant to the general superintendent. On retirement in 1945 of John A. Williams, vice president and superintendent, he became superintendent of the sawmill and also of the wood yard operations of the paper division. Although often referred to as being of "the old school" he kept up with the modern pace and developments in lumber manufacturing. Surviving besides his widow, are one daughter, Mrs. Eugene D. McGhee of Detroit; three brothers, Paul C. Holland and Vernon Holland of Holland and Kenneth Holland of Portsmouth, two sisters, Mrs. E.L. Bayton of Portsmouth and Mrs. L.R. Gardner of Suffolk; and two grandchildren. A funeral service was held at his home on High Street Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by his pastor, the Rev. Gilliam Bentley of High Street Methodist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Pallbearers were W. Tall Jones, W.H. Goodwin, A.J. Sweitzer, Lloyd Darden, Hubert S. Rawlings, D.C. Cotton, R.H. Allen and Frank Story Cutchins. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Official Board of High Street Methodist Church and members of the Franklin Lions Club. Lee Britt HOLLAND, retired Camp Manufacturing Co. superintendent, b.
