Charles Smith of Franklin Congregational Church and the Rev. Donald Trump of Suffolk. W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers were H.D. Hingerty, Nathaniel Williams, R. Lee Wright, Womack Lee, W.T. Atkinson Jr., Horace Pierce, W. Tall Jones and Lawrence H. Goodman. Holland, 79, a retired farmer of South Quay community, died Monday morning in Southampton Memorial Hospital after an illness of several months. For two years he lived at 100 Magnolia Ave., Franklin. He was the husband of Mrs. Ruth Jones Holland Holland and a son of Eugene E. and Mrs. Sallie Lawrence Holland. He was a graduate of Elon College and a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church and Holland Ruritan Club. He was an Army veteran of World War I. Besides his widow, surviving are three sons, Phillip Parker Holland of Canton, N.C., Eugene Emmett Holland of Charlottesville, and Carl Clay Holland of West Point; a sister, Mrs. Emma H. Jones of Whaleyville; and three grandchildren.
