All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ELIZABETH VERNON STEPHENSON HERRIN HILLYER RESCUE - Mrs. Elizabeth Vernie Hillyer, 74, died in Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Sunday at 10 p.m. after three days' illness. A native of Southampton County, she was a daughter of A. Judson and Belle Holmes Stephenson. She was the wife of LeRoy J. Hillyer and formerly the wife of the late Charles N. Herrin. She had resided here 40 years and was a member of Riverview Methodist Church and its organist 25 years. Besides her husband, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Vernie H. Harmon of Richmond and Mrs. Annie Belle Minga of Rescue; three sons, T. Wolford Herrin of Portsmouth, Wilson N. Herrin of Norfolk and Judson C. Herrin of Miami, Fla.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lucy H. West and Mrs. Mary Wills of Zuni; a sister, Mrs. Hannah S. Chomick of Buffalo, N.Y., 13 grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Wednesday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. John W. Newman of Broad Street Methodist Church, Richmond, and the Rev. Harley Bowman, retired. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Alvah H. Wills, Harold M. West, J. Hurley Clark, L.E. Eley, Frank Carter and Lyman Minga.
